Rui Madeira
Rui Neves Madeira is an assistant professor at School of Technology, Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, in the Systems and Informatics Department, having a strong background in Computer Science (MSc, PhD). Currently, he teaches and is responsible for Mobile Computing, Web (Full-Stack) Programming, among other courses, in different degrees. He is a researcher since 1999 and has participated in several European and national funded projects. He is a founder member and the head of the Research Centre for Engineering a Sustainable Development (Sustain.RD- IPS). Rui is also an integrated researcher (full member) at NOVA Laboratory of Computer Science and Informatics (NOVA LINCS), FCT, NOVA University of Lisboa, which has always been evaluated with Excellent grade. His general area of research activity is Multimodal Systems, with particular interest for personalization of human interaction with smart spaces and objects/ machines, across different applications and using Natural User Interfaces, Gamification and Serious Games concepts. Rui has been leading several projects under Digital Health, but h also presents interest and experience focused on Sustainability and the digitalisation of processes and systems. Rui supervised 1 PhD thesis and is currently supervising 4 more PhD thesis. He supervised several MSc dissertation(s) and graduation/ undergraduate course completion projects. He presents experience in using Participatory Design and Co-Creation approaches towards User-Centred design.
