SHIFT Research Project

The SHIFT project aims to bring a novel interdisciplinary approach to the challenges tourism small and medium-sized enterprises face by developing and validating a novel theoretical framework to explain how businesses can collaboratively reinvent themselves in a post-pandemic world. This model will result in a digitally-based, Sustainability-oriented, Highly interactive and Innovation-based Framework for Tourism marketing (SHIFT) that will serve as a stepping stone for the transformation tourism urgently needs. SHIFT’s genesis rests on old and new tourism challenges, namely sustainability, employment, competitiveness and technological transition – issues directly related to United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically goals 8, 9 and 11.
